<LISTING>

deprecatedThis tag is officially deprecated. That means that this tag is being phased out, and it is strongly suggested that you not use it.

<LISTING> is an ancient tag which was intended to indicate a long unformatted list. On many browsers, <LISTING> works like <XMP>: text is rendered exactly as it is typed in, including > and <. On other browsers, <LISTING> works like <PRE ...>: the spacing and carriage returns of the text are maintained, but the tags still have their effects. Because of the inconsistencies, it is a particularly good idea to avoid <LISTING>.
