SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES 10) Installation and Administration
Previous Page Home Next Page

3.1 IBM System z: System Start-Up for Installation

For IBM System z platforms, the system is initialized (IPL) as described in the Architecture-Specific Information manual. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server does not show a splash screen on these systems. During the installation, load the kernel, initrd, and parmfile manually. YaST starts with its installation screen as soon as a connection has been established to the installation system via VNC, X, or SSH. Because there is no splash screen, kernel or boot parameters cannot be entered on screen, but must be specified in a parmfile (see the parmfile chapter in the Architecture-Specific Information manual for a description).

HINT: IBM System z: The Next Steps

To install, follow the description of the installation procedure with YaST starting from Section 3.4, Language Selection.
