[NOT TESTED] /etc/modules needs to contain the following for SCSI to function:

     # SCSI core
     scsi_mod
     # SCSI generic driver
     sg
     # SCSI disk
     sd_mod
     # All other needed HW modules
     ...

depmod may take care of some of the above modules.
