Udev � un rimpiazzo dinamico per /dev. I nomi dei device devon essere molto corti. Devfs, usato nel kernel 2.4, � obsoleto.

Potete abilitarlo installando il kernel Debian 2.6 kernel-image-2.6.NN con il pacchetto udev.
