4.4 Options Used by --extract

The previous chapter showed how to use --extract to extract an archive into the file system. Various options cause tar to extract more information than just file contents, such as the owner, the permissions, the modification date, and so forth. This section presents options to be used with --extract when certain special considerations arise. You may review the information presented in extract for more basic information about the --extract operation.
