Q: How to configure FTP Server to allow anonymous FTP user to read/write?

  1. Read General Notes
  2. Read How to install FTP Server for File Transfer service?
  3. sudo cp /etc/proftpd.conf /etc/proftpd.conf_backup
    sudo gedit /etc/proftpd.conf
  4. Append the following lines at the end of file
    <Anonymous ~ftp>
      User                        ftp
      Group                       nogroup
      UserAlias                   anonymous ftp
      DirFakeUser on ftp
      DirFakeGroup on ftp
      RequireValidShell           off
      MaxClients                  10
      DisplayLogin                welcome.msg
      DisplayFirstChdir           .message
    </Anonymous>
  5. Save the edited file (sample)
  6. sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd restart
